![]() ![]() However, DreamPlan doesn’t allow for plans to be freely dragged and arranged on the screen. You can then trace it or change it in any way you see fit. Aside from the one sample plan you can load in-app, you can also add or download any other plan you come across on the internet. If you’re a home designing novice, you’ll probably want to load one of the preexisting floor plans instead of drawing a new one from scratch. By viewing your design in 3D you’re also able to immediately see if you need to make any correction since you haven’t aligned the walls probably or similar. This means you have a better overview of the walls and items you’ve added, and their positioning in a real-life home. For example, while most other similar products require you to create your project on a regular two dimensional plan and then transform it into a 3D model if you wish, DreamPlan lets you add items directly in the 3D view. This software gains a lot of points on usability since it allows novice users to move through the app and create their designs without much strain. Probably the most notable quality DreamPlan has to offer is the fact that it is very easy to use. ![]() Although it doesn’t have all the features and tools available with the DreamPlan Home package, it’s an excellent opportunity to try out the software before committing to buy it. It is very easy to use and it has several wizards and guides that are there to make overcoming any learning curve easier.ĭreamPlan is among the very few home design apps that offer a free version of its software. Although it hasn’t been around for as long as some other software in our review, this 3D home design app is still a solid choice for your first home designing experience. The other thing from my end is we just don't have unlimited money to engage an architect and builder to do blue-sky design and build, especially in a high cost of living area during a crazy period.DreamPlan is a young home design app developed by the NCH software. Since I had an hourly agreement with the designer/architect (and a friendly relationship), he didn't have any issues with me applying the current layout into my original file and then maintaining it from there. I wanted the ability to tweak my layout when and how I wanted without having to go through someone else. The other thing I ran into is that once the architect imported my initial plan into his CAD program, I started to feel like I was getting locked into him for every little change to see how it would play out. I do not plan to go through a builder or have to go through zoning and planning, just permitting since I'm moving a couple non-load bearing interior walls. In my case, I wanted ideas from an architect to help me solve specific layout issues and I just happened to have a floor plan already that he could start from. If you are going to have an architect and a builder engaged and they are going to be responsible for the planning, zoning, and permits and you will have them engaged for a long time / duration of the project, then it probably makes sense to just let them do what they need to do with their own processes and tools. I think it really depends on your specific situation. I did that with mine and he said that it saved him 4-5 hours that he would have billed me for. And what's nice is that you can export DWG/CAD formats that you can send to a designer or architect. Soon found I needed Architectural to get a little more control and then bumped up to Professional a month or so later. Then didn't use it again until Jan for a larger remodel / renovation. I first bought it in 2011 for a kitchen remodel. ![]() I would recommend that you start with Suite and go from there. 3D Model - This is hosted on and has tons of interactive options for exploring and navigating the layout. ![]() Dollhouse view - There are several other views as well, including a glass house view. Here are some different outputs from the program: Once you start trying to get more control over wall types and roof lines, you will need to bump up to the other levels. In comes in three different levels: Suite ($99), Architectural ($199), and Professional ($495).įor basic floor plan layouts, you can get by with Suite. I use Home Designer which is the consumer version of Chief Architect. ![]()
